According to SMS group, the project will turn the mill into a combined bar and wire rod mill and maximize rolling speeds for smaller-diameter products. New equipment to be installed includes combined and rotary shears, a shiftable water cooling line, a 320/5 precision sizing mill and a pinch roll unit with the latest-generation laying head. 

In addition, a new pouring reel will be installed, allowing Zenith to extend its current bar-in-coil diameter range from 16 to 42.5 mm.

“In the future, it will even be possible to roll product in 50-mm diameters for special applications. Additionally, the company will be able to produce heavy compact coils of up to 2.3 tons for automotive applications. To this end, bearing, spring, high-carbon, pre-stressed wire, alloy and tool steels will be added to the range of processed steel grades,” SMS group said.
