SMS group Receives Order From Xiangtan Iron & Steel for SMS Concast 4-Strand Bloom Caster
03/16/2026 - Xiangtan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. has ordered a new SMS Concast 4-strand bloom caster (CCM#12) from SMS group for its basic oxygen furnace shop in Xiangtan, China.
The company said it will use the new caster to make blooms in two section sizes with the largest being 450 x 530 mm and 395 x 410 mm. This increases its ability to create special bar quality blooms for the automotive industry, green power sector and other end markets.
The CCM#12 will have features including the Dynamic Mechanic Soft Reduction system, the largest Mechanic Soft Reduction system and gearbox design for a curved Mechanic Soft Reduction caster, the CONFLOW® Stopper Technology, the hydraulic oscillation unit, containment and air-mist spray cooling system, a stirrer with M-EMS, S-EMS and two type F EMS units, a quenching system and individual bloom discharge.
SMS group said this is the largest bloom size in operation worldwide currently, including jumbo rounds or blooms cast on curved or vertical casters.
The companies said commissioning is set for the end of December 2026.
