SMS group Supplies Rebar Rolling Mill to Abul Khair Steel
10/23/2025 - Abul Khair Group subsidiary, Abul Khair Steel Ltd., has successfully begun production at its new high-capacity rolling mill built by SMS group in Sitakunda, Bangladesh.
The company said the new mill was made to meet the country’s growing demand for high-quality construction steel to support its construction and infrastructure development. It can produce an estimated 1.6 million metric tons of deformed bars annually.
The mill is engineered to manufacture deformed bars ranging from 8 to 40 mm in diameter. It achieved a record-breaking production speed of 52.5 m/second during its initial operational phase, later achieving 55.04 m/second when producing 2 x 10 mm deformed bars, the company said.
“By achieving record-breaking speeds and ensuring reliable operations, we are helping Abul Khair Steel serve its customers more effectively and contribute to Bangladesh’s infrastructure growth,” said Bernhard Steenken, chief sale officer for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East and Africa regions of SMS group.
SMS delivered the entire rolling mill from a single source and equipped it with technologies including the SMS ECOFlame+ burner and an Elotherm® induction furnace. It also features the EBROS® endless bar rolling system to increase productivity by about 8% over a 1-hour production period.
The system ensures uninterrupted billet-to-billet welding; more than 10,000,000 billets have been successfully welded to date using the process. It also has MEERdrive® blocks, individual drive technology, the HSD® (High-Speed Delivery) system and HSD® drums.
Abul Khair Steel said the technological solutions have reduced capital expenditure and operational expenditure to make its production processes more competitive.
