SMS group to Supply Sinter Plant to JSW Utkal Steel Ltd.
10/20/2026 - SMS group announced it has been contracted to supply its agglomeration sinter plant for JSW Utkal Steel Ltd.’s new integrated steel works in Odisha.
The scope includes full design, engineering and an equipment supply package including electrical systems and level 1 and 2 automations. It will feature Optimus Sinter, Emission- and Energy-Optimized Sintering (EOS) technology. The company estimates production of 5.75 million metric tons annually for the first phase.
“With multiple sinter plants already delivered and successfully operating based on SMS group’s solutions, this collaboration reflects SMS group’s technology leadership and the continued trust JSW Group has placed in our expertise, reliability and performance,” said Matthias Gabriel, director of SMS Agglomeration.
The contract is part of a large greenfield project which will be part of a 13.2-million-metric-tons-per-year integrated steel plant.
Commissioning is scheduled for May 2028, the companies said.
