According to SMS, it took two weeks to remove the old trimmer from the No. 3 pickling line, replace it with the new unit and commission it. 

“The time needed for revamping and commissioning was extremely short thanks to the fact that the machine was … pre-assembled and function-tested with its own electrical and automation systems,” SMS said. 

SMS said the trimmer can process hot strip in thicknesses of between 1.2 and 6 mm and at speeds of up to 360 m/minute. 

“The twin-head design of the side trimmer offers the advantage that trimming knives in maintenance position can be changed while production is going on,” the company said.
