SSAB Invests US$74 Million to Expand Production Capacity
05/04/2025 - SSAB announced its Axis, Ala., USA, facility will undergo a US$74 million expansion of its heat treat capacity.
The company said the project will include construction of a new building equipped with a tempering furnace and further improvements to the infrastructure.
“This investment will not only expand our capacity for niche products, which are in high demand, but also enable us to offer a broader product range from our Alabama facility,” said head of sales special steels at SSAB, Kjell Baeckman.
SSAB Alabama also expects to create 12 new jobs.
“By expanding production of high-strength, specialized steel, SSAB is reinforcing Mobile County’s role in driving innovation and supplying critical materials to key sectors across North and South America,” said Mobile chamber president and chief executive officer Bradley Byrne.
The company said the initiative will commence in 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2027.
