Steel Dynamics Secures Tax Break for Heartland Expansion
09/15/2021 - Local officials in Indiana have approved an economic incentive for a potential Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) expansion in the state, the Tribune-Star newspaper reports.
According to the newspaper, the Vigo County Council approved a 10-year, US$25 million tax abatement that could be applied to the expansion of the steelmaker's Heartland facility. SDI is considering the facility as the home for a new paint line and galvanizing line.
The two lines are a piece of a larger US$400 million investment in additional processing capacity in the Midwest and the South. SDI has not announced site selections.
