Steel Industry Awaits Trump Decision on U. S. Steel
05/22/2025 - The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has forwarded a recommendation on the United States Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Corp. merger, but details of the recommendation have not been disclosed, the Reuters news service reports.
According to Reuters, the recommendation was submitted Wednesday, but Reuters said it was unable to learn what the recommendation is. Trump now has 15 days to make a decision.
However, in an interview with the nonprofit nippon.com, Nippon Steel vice chairman Takahiro Mori said he is confident that the company has resolved Trump’s concerns over the deal.
“We think his concerns have been fully addressed,” Mori said, adding that Nippon is not considering anything less than making U. S. Steel a wholly owned subsidiary.
