Anshan Isco Starts up VAI Slab Caster

01 June 2005 - Anshan Isco, P.R. China, recently started up its caster CCM1-New in fully-automatic mode. The project is part of Anshan’s plan to relocate the new steel plant No. 3 in two stages. The contract to build two twin-strand casters with a planned total capacity of approximately five million tonnes was awarded to VAI in 2003.

Danieli to Revamp Three Slab Casters at Arcelor Sollac Dunkerque

Posco sets New World Record for Normalized Blast Furnace Operations

01 June 2005 - Posco has completed the improvement process for its 2nd blast furnace at Kwangyang Works in only 66 days, the shortest time recorded in Posco's history. The blast furnace also achieved normalized operations in only three days from the start of its second-generation operation, setting a new world record.

VAI to Modernize Salzgitter Flachstahl Cold Mill

01 June 2005 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) in Salzgitter, Germany, recently awarded VAI Automation a contract to modernize the complete automation system of its 5-stand Tandem Mill. As part of the contract, VAI will also supply a new Bending System for stands 1 to 4, including a plant safety system.

Harsco Acquires Evulca

01 June 2005 - Harsco Corp. announced its acquisition of Evulca, a France-based specialist with more than 30 years experience providing conveyor belt management and maintenance services to the steel industry and other industrial clients. Terms of the cash acquisition were not disclosed.

01 June 2005 - ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks GmbH, Duisburg, and Volvo Cars, Göteborg / Sweden, are stepping up their cooperation with a new service center located on the site of the Volvo plant in Olofström/Sweden. ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks Sverige AB, a newly formed subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks GmbH, will soon supply the Swedish auto manufacturer directly from the new service center.
