22 June 2005 - Commercial Metals Co. reported net earnings of $71.7 million on net sales of $1.7 billion for the quarter ended May 31, 2005, ranking it as the strongest third quarter ever for the company.

Ipsco Revises Second Quarter Outlook

20 June 2005 - Ipsco Inc. has revised its outlook for the second quarter. Although the company had originally estimated that second quarter earnings per share would meet or exceed $2.75 per diluted share, Ipsco now expects that earnings will be closer to $2.45 per diluted share.

AK Steel Announces July Surcharges

17 June 2005 - AK Steel will add a $208 per ton surcharge to invoices for flat-rolled carbon steel products shipped in July 2005. A $200 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in July 2005.

16 June 2005 - Mittal Steel Co. has disposed of its bareboat charter interests in two lake vessels that provide raw materials to its steel works in Burns Harbor, Ind. The vessels were chartered by International Steel Group, which Mittal Steel Co. acquired on April 15.

ATI Allegheny Ludlum to Increase Specialty Steel Alloy Prices

15 June 2005 - ATI Allegheny Ludlum is increasing prices by 4 to 10% for nickel-based alloys, stainless steel super-ferritic alloys, stainless steel super-austenitic alloys, stainless steel high strength alloys, and for AL 332 and AL 334 alloys. The price increase applies to sheet, strip, Precision Rolled Strip®, and plate product forms. It is effective with new orders entered on or after June 13, 2005.

First Quarter Stainless Steel Imports Climb 37% Higher than 2004

14 June 2005 - Total stainless steel imports reached 182,350 tons through the first quarter of 2005 — 37% higher than the first quarter of 2004 — according to the latest statistical data released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). Total specialty steel imports (including stainless, electrical, and tool steels) were 39% higher than the first quarter of 2004.
