Systems Spray-Cooled Lands Order for Micro-Mill Furnace Components
12/07/2022 - Electric arc furnace (EAF) cooling specialist Systems Spray-Cooled has received an order from Nucor Corp. for components that will serve the steelmaker’s planned Lexington, N.C., USA, micro-mill.
In a statement, Systems Spray-Cooled said the order includes a furnace sidewall, roof, and elbow and will provide for all of the furnace cooling needs.
“Nucor Steel’s decision to install Spray-Cooled equipment was based on the need for the safest, most environmentally friendly, lowest cost option (supply and maintenance), along with the extended life and performance for water-cooled equipment,” the company said in a statement.
The EAF roof will be of a single-point cantilever design, and the elbow will feature a new, integrated drain design that eliminates bolted connections for quicker change-outs,” Systems Spray-Cooled said.
“The EAF sidewall incorporates a unique proprietary ‘sloped’ hot face profile with integrated ‘bump-outs’ to help protect the burners and reduce scrap jams at the slag door opening area,” it added.
Systems Spray-Cooled is part of The Systems Group.
