Systems Spray-Cooled: New Investment and Partnership

According to a press release, the investors with a majority stake include David Brogdon, one of the founders of Bad Boy Mowers, and his partners. Scott Ferguson, vice president and general manager of SSC, is also now an owner. SSC will continue to be operated as part of The Systems Group.

Brogdon has taken part in various businesses including Bad Boy Mowers, Platinum Metal Works, Conveyor Technology Inc., Systems Spray-Cooled and others, the company said. He has served in the roles of chief financial officer (CFO), president and vice president of sales of new products. He was also awarded by Arkansas Business as CFO of the Year in 2015 in the large private company category.

“This investment from David and his partners is a strategy to be able to invest more in global growth while still supporting our domestic customer base,” said The Systems Group in a statement.

While SSC has been predominantly U.S.-based, as the steel industry converts from basic oxygen furnaces to electric arc furnaces (EAFs), they are spreading their Spray-Cooled™ technology with projects ongoing in Europe, Mexico, South America and Africa, the company said.

As part of SSC’s mission of “Making Meltshops Safer,” they estimate using their Spray-Cooled™ technology is safer, has better uptime and keeps more heat in the furnace than the pressurized cooling methods of EAFs. Spray-Cooled technology removes high-pressure water from the hot face of the furnace, only allowing a small trickle of water in while pressurized technology can throw enough water in to cause explosions, the company said.
