Systems Spray-Cooled Supplies Furnace Equipment for Big River Steel
05/03/2021 - Cooling equipment manufacturer Systems Spray-Cooled supplied Big River Steel’s expanded meltshop with nearly three dozen key components, including a roof, elbow, sidewall and offgas duct work, the company reports.
According to Systems Spray-Cooled, a part of Arkansas-based The Systems Group, Big River’s decision to install Spray-Cooled equipment reflects its desire for safe, reliable and economic solutions.
Big River’s expanded meltshop includes a second electric arc furnace (EAF), which is outfitted with a Systems Spray-Cooled gantry-style roof with a steep cone hot face profile for optimization and extended lifetime.
“The elbow incorporates a new integrated drain design that eliminates bolted connections for quicker changeouts. The EAF sidewall incorporates a unique proprietary hot face profile that includes integrated bump-outs to help protect the burners and refractory bricks, and reduce scrap jams at the slag door opening area,” the company said.
Systems Spray-Cooled also said it partnered with SMS group, the mill’s primary technology supplier, to provide a complete Spray-Cooled Direct Evacuation Control System, which consists of a D1 downcomer duct, dropout chamber (DOC) and downstream duct for all the water-cooled equipment.
