Tata Steel Recognized for Social Responsibility
09/22/2009 - Tata Steel receives UK Trade & Investment India Business Award 2009 in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility.
Tata Steel was honored with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) India Business Awards 2009 in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility. The award was received by Partha Sengupta, Vice President of Corporate Services, and Satish Pillai, Chief of Corporate Sustainability Services, from Lord Mervyn Davies in Mumbai on September 17.
The finalists for the award were Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, and Tata Steel.
The UKTI India Business Awards 2009 celebrates the achievements of UK and Indian companies that have found interesting ways of conducting business between the two nations. The event had seven categories: Investor of the Year, Business Partnership Award, Green Innovation Award, New Market Entrant, Corporate Social Responsibility Award, Young Business Leader of the Year, and Business Person of the Year.
The first UK Trade & Investment India Business Awards were launched by British Prime Minister Tony Blair in New Delhi in September 2005 as a means to celebrate UK-India relations and recognize India’s position as a key global partner. The awards were first presented by His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, on November 1, 2006.
Established in 1907, Tata Steel is one of the top 10 steel producers in the world. As Tata Steel’s operations have expanded to new locations, it has retained a focus on the various areas of corporate social responsibility that impact the environment, people and their health, and society at large. In India, the company is pledged to causes such as strengthening civic amenities in and around its sites, providing healthcare, education, training, employment and recreation, and preserving culture and heritage, especially of indigenous tribes.
