Tata Steel Registers Increases in Production, Sales
11/10/2009 - Tata Steel completed October with production increases of 17% for hot metal, 22% for crude steel, and 27% for saleable steel compared to the corresponding month of last year. It also recorded a 38% sales increase vs. last October.
Tata Steel completed October with production increases of 17% for its hot metal (649,000 tonnes vs. 555,000 tonnes); 22% for crude steel (599,000 tonnes vs. 489,000 tonnes); and 27% for saleable steel (570,000 tonnes vs. 450,000 tonnes) compared to the corresponding month of last year.
The company recorded October sales of 462,000 tonnes, a 38% increase vs. last year’s 335,000 tonnes. That includes an 89% increase in long products sales and a 13% increase in flat products sales over October 2008.
The month also featured best-ever production in most of its producing units. For example, H blast furnace recorded production of 285,357 tonnes, which is at 3.42 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) against the rated capacity of 2.5 mtpa.
LD#1 (a steel meltshop) recorded its best-ever production of 263,243 tonnes, while LD#2 did the same with 336,012 tonnes. New Bar Mill (one of its Long Products rolling mills) recorded its best-ever production of 62,448 tonnes, which is at 0.74 mtpa against the rated capacity of 0.6 mtpa.
