Tata Steel Reports Best-Ever Blast Furnace Output in November

12/05/2008 - Tata Steel reports a significant increase in hot metal and crude steel production for the month of November, including record-setting blast furnace and meltshop tonnages.

Tata Steel reported a significant increase in hot metal and crude steel production for the month of November.
 
The company said that its blast furnaces recorded their best-ever production of 578,400 tonnes of hot metal in November, exceeding its previous record of 554,892 tonnes hot metal, which had been set in the previous month, October 2008. The company’s November hot metal production represents a 26.8% increase over November 2007 production of 456,000 tonnes of hot metal.
 
The company’s G Blast Furnace recorded its best-ever hot metal production of 192,100 tonnes (vs. previous best of 190,942 tonnes in Dec’06). Its H Blast Furnace produced 233,000 tonnes, its highest production volume of hot metal since startup.
 
The company’s steel meltshops also recorded best-ever production of 513,789 tonnes of crude steel, passing the previous record of 489,312 tonnes crude steel, which had been set in the previous month, October 2008. One of its steel meltshops, LD No. 1, recorded best-ever production of 205,550 tonnes, surpassing its previous record of 176,491 tonnes of crude steel in October 2008.
 
The company’s November crude steel production represents a 23.0% increase over November 2007 production of 418,000 tonnes of crude steel.
 
Tat Steel’s sinter plants recorded best-ever sinter production of 577,076 tones, breaking the company’s previous record of 568,395 tonnes, which was set in October 2008.
 
The company’s wire rod mills recorded its best November production of 35,086 tonnes. Its merchant mills recorded best-ever production of 30,124 tonnes, surpassing a previous best of 29,458 tonnes in August 2008. The company’s new bar mill recorded its best November production of 51,273 tonnes.
