Tata Steel Reports Increased Sales, Production in February

Tata Steel recorded a 47% rise in sales as well as increased production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel in February 2009 as compared to February 2008
 
The company produced 516,766 tonnes of hot metal and 466,000 tonnes of crude steel in February, a 19% increase in hot metal and a 12% increase in crude steel vs. February 2008. This was the company’s highest hot metal production for February; its previous best was recorded in February 2007.
 
The company produced 497,622 tonnes of saleable steel in February, a 21% increase compared to February 2008 — also a best-ever for February month. The company’s previous best was recorded in February 2008.
 
February sales of 584,000 tonnes reflect a 47% increase vs. 397,000 tonnes in February 2008. The total reflects a 65% increase in Long product sales and a 37% increase in Flat product sales over February 2008.
 
The company’s steel meltshops recorded best-ever February production of crude steel at 465,985  tonnes. The company’s previous best total for the month was recorded in February 2008.
 
The company said that its LD No. 1 also recorded its best February production at 182,633 tonnes. Its previous  best was recorded in February 2008.
