Tata Steel Successfully Rolls Out First Batch of Galvanized Coils
08/06/2025 - Tata Steel Kalinganagar celebrated rolling out its first batch of galvanized coils at its new state-of-the-art galvanizing line at the cold rolling mill complex in Odisha.
Among the attendees were Karamveer Singh, general manager of operations at Tata Steel Kalinganagar; Rabindra Kumar Jamuda, president of Tata Steel Kalinganagar worker’s union; and other senior officials.
“The new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL-1) at Kalinganagar has been engineered to produce advanced coated products with superior surface finish, formability, and corrosion resistance — specifically outlined to meet the stringent quality requirements of the automotive and appliance sectors,” said Prabhat Kumar, vice president of marketing and sales for flat products at Tata Steel.
The continuous galvanizing line technology features a third-generation air knife with magnetic stabilizer, an oxidation chamber and secondary coatings. The company said this will allow for production of automotive steel including coated advanced high-strength steels.
This milestone follows the commissioning of India’s largest blast furnace at the site last year. The CGL-1 is part of the Phase II expansion alongside other facilities including the pellet plant and coke plant.
