Tata Steel Unveils Its New Fire-Resistant Structural Steel

The company said that the steel can keep 2/3 of its yield strength at 600°C for up to three hours. It features an advanced alloy design with an optimized combination of microalloying and microstructural engineering.

"As fire safety assumes greater importance in the design of modern infrastructure, material innovation is critical to enhancing structural resilience… This BIS-certified fire-resistant steel is one such innovation, designed to enhance structural safety while meeting the performance demands of modern construction,” said Subodh Pandey, vice president of technology, R&R, new material business and graphene at Tata Steel.

The steel was certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards under the Indian standard for fire-resistant structural steel.
