TenneT Germany Commissions Salzgitter Industrial Power Line

The company said the power line connects the Liedingen and Bleckenstedt/Süd substations with a 380 kV overhead line spanning about 10 km. The existing 220 kV grid would not have been able to meet additional demand in the long term. Therefore, the new line provides additional capacity as an essential first step to further development of the site.

“As the transformation of steel production largely involves the electrification of processes, the new industrial power line is a key infrastructural prerequisite for the success of SALCOS®,” said Heike Denecke-Arnold, chairwoman of the management board of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.

The project is part of the Ostfalen Axis, an area about 100 km long from Mehrum near Peine to Salzgitter’s industrial hub near the border of Lower Saxony, Germany.
