ThyssenKrupp CSA Produces its First Slab

ThyssenKrupp CSA Siderúrgica do Atlântico is celebrating this week the production its first steel slab at its new steel mill in Rio de Janeiro. The new facility’s first slab was produced on Tuesday evening, September 7.

"Everybody did a very good job, not only today, but in the last days to produce this first slab. It´s a very nice beginning”, said Dr. Hans L. Fischer, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Steel Americas and Chairman of the Board of ThyssenKrupp CSA.

Start-up of slab production at the new steel plant marks an important milestone for CSA. The start-up follows the June 18 initiation of operations, when President Lula attended the opening ceremony of the steel mill complex, as well as three and a half years of facility construction.

“After more than three years of a hard work we produced a slab with extraordinary quality and shape,” stated Dr. Herbert Eichelkraut, CEO of ThyssenKrupp CSA. “This is the first day of production and we will remain optimizing the process.”

Technicians involved in the operation are reported to have praised the equipment’s performance, saying that it worked smoothly, efficiently and safely.

ThyssenKrupp CSA is building a new steel mill in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that will have an annual capacity of five million tons of steel.
