Tuflesa Turns to SMS group for ERW Tube Line Upgrade
08/27/2026 - SMS group announced it has been selected to modernize the sizing section of Tubos y Flejes SLU’s (Tuflesa) electric resistance welding (ERW) tube line at its site in Las Torres de Cotillas, Spain.
The ERW-RD-240 line was supplied by SMS group almost 30 years ago. Over time, the sizing equipment has worn and lost dimensional accuracy. The line focuses on structural products with diameters up to 240 mm for rounds and 200 x 200 mm for squares. SMS group said it will replace the line’s four existing sizing strands and the changeover equipment.
“By replacing the aged sizing equipment while retaining selected existing plant components, we are providing a technically optimized and efficient solution. This will help Tuflesa ensure reliable production, restore product quality and meet future product requirements,” said Susanne Zeller, head of tube/pipe and section solutions at SMS group.
SMS group said it will supply the new sizing strands fully assembled, wired and piped to make the replacement process easier during the planned 2027 summer shutdown. They will also supervise commissioning and help in the start-up phase.
