U. S. Steel Celebrates Its 125th Anniversary
02/25/2026 - United States Steel Corporation announced its 125th anniversary theme, “Forging Our Future | 125 Years Strong,” celebrating its founding on 25 February 1901.
“U. S. Steel was built by generations of people who believed deeply in the importance of what they were creating,” said David Burritt, president and chief executive officer of U. S. Steel.
At its founding, U. S. Steel helped supply the steel which made everything from bridges and railroads to energy systems and cars. It even supplied much of the steel used during World War II. Looking to the future, the company said it will focus on modern steelmaking, innovation and long-term growth.
“We’ve weathered many ups and downs to get where we are, and our 125th anniversary is honoring that legacy while looking ahead with confidence. We are investing to modernize, compete and ensure U. S. Steel remains strong, relevant and essential — for our employees, our customers, our communities and our country,” Burritt continued.
The company said it will celebrate its 125th anniversary in various ways throughout 2026, beginning with a special landing page on its website and a year-long video series, “What Makes Us.”
“An American original since 1901, U. S. Steel remains a company with momentum, purpose and a clear direction forward. Our legacy is strong, but our future is even stronger. U. S. Steel is back,” Burritt said.
