U. S. Steel EAF Strikes Its First Arc
10/26/2020 - United States Steel Corporation has started up the electric arc furnace at its Fairfield, Ala., facility, a new milestone in its unfolding “Best of Both” strategy.
In a statement, U. S. Steel said the furnace, designated as Fairfield EAF No. 1, tapped its first heat on 20 October.
“The EAF significantly enhances our ability to deliver customer-centric solutions and results. We made a commitment to add electric arc steelmaking to our operating footprint as part of our ‘Best of Both’ strategy. This successful start-up delivers on that promise, and I am very pleased with the way our people safely accomplished this while navigating the disruptive influences of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said U. S. Steel chief executive David Burritt.
