U. S. Steel Enters Next Phase of Construction of New Q&T Facility
09/15/2026 - United States Steel Corporation announced it received the required air permit to move to the next phase of construction for the Fairfield Tubular Operations’ US$475 million new quench and tempering (Q&T) facility.
“With the final permit in place, we can move forward with an investment that strengthens our competitive position in one of the most important energy markets in North America,” said Kevin Lewis, executive vice president, chief financial officer and head of tubular solutions at U. S. Steel.
The company said the Q&T project will allow Fairfield Tubular to produce heat-treated product in-house, positioning it to serve the oil- and gas-producing basins.
“This investment increases product quality and reinforces our commitment to the employees and customers who depend on us every day,” said Scott Dorn, senior vice president of U. S. Steel tubular solutions.
The company expects the Q&T facility will reach full production in 2029. When completed, Fairfield Tubular’s campus will have a Q&T line, premium thread line, new training facility, warehouse and upgraded employee changing areas.
