U. S. Steel Košice Approves EUR 900 Million Investment for New EAF, ASU

The company said the new EAF will have a production capacity of about 1.6 million metric tons annually and will be operated in tandem with the existing blast furnace facilities. The ASU will support the steel works operation while improving energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. 

The Government of the Slovak Republic also signed a grant agreement with Košice Steelworks for about EUR 350 million from the EU Modernization Fund. 

U. S. Steel Košice will become a direct subsidiary of Nippon Steel and change its name to Nippon Steel Slovakia s.r.o, effective 1 October. Nippon Steel said it will position the company as a core operating hub to contribute to the region’s development.
