U. S. Steel Košice to Add Second Electrical Steel Line
01/17/2019 - United States Steel Corporation will build a US$130 million electrical steel line at its integrated mill in Slovakia, the company has announced.
In a statement, U. S. Steel Košice (USSK) said the line will have the capacity to produce 100,000 metric tons annually of non-oriented electrical steel and will complement its existing non-oriented line.
U. S. Steel Košice president James Bruno said the project is in response to increasing customer demand for high-quality, non-oriented electrical steels.
“This investment is an important component of our long-term strategy to improve and diversify product capabilities. With this investment, USSK is well positioned to be a preferred global supplier through long-term partnerships, and has already entered into a contractual commitment for a substantial portion of the new line’s volume with a strategic customer,” he said.
The line is scheduled to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2020. Construction is to begin later this year.
