U. S. Steel Restarts Battery Involved in Clairton Coke Plant Accident
10/24/2025 - United States Steel Corporation announced battery #14, the battery involved in the Clairton Coke Plant accident in August, is back on-line.
The company said the battery had been on hot idle since the accident for necessary repairs. Once the repairs were complete, they prepared to safely resume operations after safety checks and equipment evaluations. Battery #14 was officially restarted on 23 October.
“All procedures will be carried out with a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance,” U. S. Steel said in a statement.
