US$6.6 Billion Anduril, U.S. Navy Investment to Bolster American Submarine Production
10/07/2026 - U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new shipyard in Baltimore, Md., Arsenal-2, will be backed by US$3.7 billion from Anduril Industries and US$2.9 billion from the U.S. Navy, amounting to a US$6.6 billion investment into strengthening the American submarine industrial base.
The company said the new facility will manufacture components for the Virginia-class submarine. Arsenal-2 will build components and large-scale assemblies of the submarine and deliver them to General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding for assembly.
“Not only does this project strengthen our economic and national security — it also gives us a chance to write the next chapter of Sparrows Point's storied industrial legacy. I’m proud to welcome this investment to Baltimore County and excited about what it will mean for workers, families and our entire region,” said U.S. Congressman Johnny Olszewski.
The facility will be built at Tradepoint Atlantic in Baltimore County within the Sparrows Point complex. It will be over 2 million square feet, with shorter distances between fabrication, assembly, testing and integration areas. It will feature a 1,200-ft. graving dock and multimodal road and rail access to support large component movement. Other features will include high-bay assembly halls, adjacent fabrication areas and reconfigurable production lines, the company said.
The company estimates the project will create 3,100 direct jobs and support over 11,000 indirect jobs while driving US$2 billion in economic output annually.
The company said it expects initial operations to come on-line in 2030, with production scaling progressively after.
