voestalpine Stahl GmbH’s Hot Strip Mill To Be Upgraded by Primetals Technologies
02/26/2026 - Primetals Technologies announced it will upgrade vostalpine Stahl GmbH’s laminar strip cooling line at its hot strip mill in Linz, Austria.
The companies said the upgrade is intended to increase the cooling capacity of the strip cooling system. This included installing new laminar cooling headers, flow-controlled valves, new roller table ride guides, water knives and a cross-spray system. The scope also includes all fluid systems, electrical and basic automation systems.
Primetals Technologies said the upgrade will provide uniform, controlled and metallurgically tailored strip cooling across its widths and length. It will also have a balanced heat flux between the top and bottom surfaces to support development of more steel grades with a focus on the automotive sector.
The project will take place over scheduled 10-day shutdowns in 2027 and 2028, the companies said.
