voestalpine Taps Danieli for Advanced Scrap Yard Cranes
11/19/2025 - Danieli announced it has received an order from voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH for five automatic scrap yard cranes with the Danieli Scrap Yard Management System (Q3-DYMS) for its Donawitz site in Austria.
The new cranes will have automation technologies including absolute positioning systems, intelligent video cameras with Danieli Eye-On, electrical antisway and regenerative drives, scrap metal classification and volumetric detection for yard inventory, the companies said.
The cranes’ capabilities include operation with electromagnets or electrohydraulic grabs to ensure efficient, autonomous and energy saving operation.
The new cranes are in addition to voestalpine’s recent orders with Danieli for two new electric arc furnaces (EAFs) and two semiautomatic EAF charging cranes.
