Wendell Carter Appointed to SunCoke Energy Board

Carter will serve as a member of the compensation committee and the governance committee of the board, along with serving in the class of directors standing for election at the company’s annual stockholders meeting. 

“Wendell’s distinguished career in the iron and steel industry, and his extensive operational and technical experience will add valuable perspective to our board. We look forward to working with him and benefiting from his insights,” said Arthur Anton, chairman of SunCoke Energy. 

Carter started at Inland Steel in 1983 in technical and supervisory ironmaking roles. Over time, he held leadership positions in operations, engineering, strategy, product development and quality. He most recently served as executive vice president of technology at Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Before that, he held various leadership roles at both Cleveland-Cliffs and ArcelorMittal USA LLC. Carter is a past president of AIST.

“His metallurgical engineering background, leadership in product and process innovation, and deep experience optimizing large-scale steelmaking operations aligns closely with SunCoke’s focus on operational excellence,” said Katherine Gates, president and chief executive officer of SunCoke Energy. 

Carter has a B.S. degree in metallurgical engineering and an M.B.A. and wrote 13 technical papers on iron blast furnace construction and practice.
