worldsteel Announces New Members, Appoints New Director General
04/14/2026 - The board of members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced it has welcomed a new group of members as well as appointing Henrik Adam as its new director general beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Adam succeeds Edwin Basson, who will retire this year after over 15 years with worldsteel. Adam currently serves as the executive chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands Holding BV and president of the European Steel Association (EUROFER) and chairman of the Steel Institute VDeh in Germany.
Adam has worked in the steel and automotive sectors for over 25 years, including as chief executive officer at both Tata Steel Europe and thyssenkrupp. He’s also worked in production, research and development, supply chain, and strategy.
