Xuanli Steel Turns to SMS group for 5-Meter Plate Finishing Mill
10/15/2026 - SMS group has received an order from Anhui Xuanli Steel Group Co. Ltd. to supply a new 5-meter plate finishing stand, trimming shear and slitting shear to its new facility in Tongling City, China.
SMS group said a core component of its scope of supply is the 4-high finishing mill stand with hydraulic gap control cylinders and work roll shifting/bending systems.
The trimming and slitting shears will allow Xuanli to roll double-width plates and slit them into narrower plates with outstanding finished-edge quality. With these features, the plate mill can roll finished plates with widths between 1,300 to 4,900 mm and thicknesses between 5 to 300 mm.
“This important order underscores our commitment to deliver cutting-edge plate rolling solutions that combine maximum power with unmatched precision. We are proud to support Xuanli Steel’s strategic expansion and look forward to a successful partnership,” said Stephan Krämer, senior vice president of flat products at SMS group GmbH.
The mill will have level 1 and 2 automation systems and process models from the X-Pact® family. This includes physical models, the X-Pact thermomechanical rolling, the batch scheduler module and X-Pact sense.
The companies estimate the plate mill will have a capacity of 2 million metric tons annually. It is scheduled to go into operation in 2028.
