ABB to Invest Over CA$130 Million in Canadian R&D and Production

The new facility in Montreal, Quebec, will combine and replace the existing ABB facilities at Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Over 33% larger than the two other locations, the new facility will be 340,000 sq. ft.

The new building will integrate clean, energy-efficient electrical equipment and heating systems to reduce energy consumption and cut carbon emissions by over an estimated 95% compared to the other two existing facilities, the company said. It will incorporate production automation and digital technologies.

“Our investment will support our future growth in Canada, as demand increases with customers focused on grid resilience, power distribution and renewables, and in new transportation, buildings and infrastructure projects,” said Khalid Mandri, president of ABB Installation Products.

The new site will bring more than 600 existing employees from manufacturing, R&D, engineering, testing and support functions into one location. The company expects more jobs to be created as new product lines are added and production increases.

CA$16 million of the project’s funding comes from Investissement Québec. This project will be ABB’s largest investment in Canada to date.

ABB said the new site is expected to open in mid 2027.
