New Danieli Billet Caster
March 4, 2004 — Aceralia Redondos, an Arcelor group company, recently cast the first billets at the Zumarraga Works’ new six-strand special steels conticaster.
The new Danieli state-of the-art continuous casting machine (CCM) features submerged nozzle operation (Stopper Rod System), mould stirring system and hydraulic-type oscillating tables.
The machine is designed for casting 160 x 160-mm billets in a wide range of engineering and special steels at rates of over 180 tonnes/hour, depending on steel grade. Grades will include free-cutting, cold heading, cold drawing and forging qualities for the automotive industry.
Aceralia Redondos started up a previous Danieli CCM at the Azpeitia Steelworks in 2002.
