AIST Lends Support to Hydrogen Hub Development
07/21/2022 - The Association for Iron & Steel Technology is putting support behind development of a national hydrogen infrastructure, offering up its technical expertise to public-private partnerships that are looking to establish production and distribution hubs.
“The U. S. steel industry is vital to the grand challenge of industrial decarbonization,” the association said in a statement. “AIST is available to offer industrywide technical support to advance the evolution of Hydrogen Hub activity toward a clean energy future and to serve as an administrative body for additional public/private partnership needs.”
The steel industry is likely to be both a significant consumer and supplier in the new hydrogen economy, the association said, as hydrogen will fuel clean steelmaking, and clean steel will be a necessity as a sustainable hydrogen infrastructure will require reactors, storage vessels, and pipelines, among other steel products.
“The steel industry represents a strong partner for all Hydrogen Hub activity. Clean hydrogen energy will need clean steel, and clean steel will benefit from clean energy; these industries are interdependent,” the association said.
