Applications Being Accepted for FeMET, StEEL Scholarships
12/08/2008 - The American Iron and Steel Institute and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation announce that applications are being accepted from now through March 5, 2009 for the 2009-2010 FeMET and StEEL Scholarships.
Applications are being accepted for 2009-2010 FeMET and StEEL Scholarships. The scholarships, which are sponsored by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation (AIST Foundation), includes $5,000 for the scholar’s junior year, a paid summer internship with a North American steel company between his/her junior and senior year, and an additional $5,000 toward the student’s senior-year tuition.

The goals of the FeMET program are
· To encourage more students to choose metallurgy or materials science as their field of study
· To recruit more graduates into the steel industry
· To increase the number of metallurgical professors in North American universities.
The StEEL program, with similar industry objectives, is open to all undergraduate engineering majors.

In addition, the top-scoring applicant from both the FeMET and StEEL applications will be awarded the AISI/AIST Foundation Premier Scholarship, which includes $10,000 for the scholar’s junior year, a paid summer internship with a North American steel company between his/her junior and senior year, and an additional $10,000 toward the student’s senior-year tuition.
“For the right individuals, there is significant opportunity for rewarding employment and rapid career advancement in today’s steel industry. The industry-led FeMET and StEEL Initiatives have worked successfully for four years to help find those individuals,” said Ron Ashburn, Executive Director of AIST.

Gibson. “The North American steel industry is committed to building a sustainable future through continued environmental achievements, innovative new steel applications and a talented workforce. Students taking part in the FeMET and StEEL program can be part of that vision for the future.”
