ArcelorMittal Appoints COO of ArcelorMittal Ostrava

ArcelorMittal announced the appointment of Dirk Stroo to the position of Chief Operating Officer of ArcelorMittal Ostrava, effective from January 1, 2012.
 
Stroo (48), who had previously been working at ArcelorMittal’s in Gent, Belgian subsidiary, replaces former Ostrava COO, Hans Ludwig Rosenstock, WHO IS TO become Chief Operating Office of the company’s South African subsidiary, also effective from January 1.
 
“Even though Ostrava is in a good technical condition, from my position I will aim mainly on the improvement projects concerning the operations and its optimization,” said Dirk Stroo. “Utmost important challenge for me is the safety of all operations, which is an area that can be continually improved.”
 
Stroo started with the company as Support Manager, Operations Research, in the IT department to develop technical models for hot rolling, pickling, cold rolling and mill pacing optimization. In 1994 he went to the hot strip mill department, starting as Manager of Refractory Maintenance and Production of the hot strip mill furnaces. From 2000 to 2006 he served as Manager of Gent’s slab yard. Since 2007, ha has held the position of Head of Department Raw Materials, Harbor, Transport and Recycling at ArcelorMittal Gent.
 
Stroo graduated at the Gent State University (Belgium) as Civil Engineer in Mechanics in 1987. After two years research at the University on numerical models for fluid dynamics, he joined the former Sidmar (Arbed Group) in 1989. Sidmar was later renamed to ArcelorMittal Gent after the merger of Arcelor and Mittal Steel.
