ArcelorMittal Idles Indiana Hot Strip Mill
04/01/2016 - In the latest of it capacity-cutting efforts, ArcelorMittal has shut down the 84-inch hot strip mill at its Indiana Harbor facility in Indiana, a union official tells The Times newspaper of northwest Indiana.
"The hot strip mill has been shut down, but we're finding jobs for them," United Steelworkers District 7 Director Mike Millsap told the newspaper. "We're still bargaining over some of that stuff. No layoffs is the goal."
The Times has more on the story here.
ArcelorMittal lost US$7.9 billion in 2015 and has announced a plan to optimize its North American footprint. Aside from idling facilities and equipment in Indiana, the company last month sold two mini-mills and a long products rolling mill to an affiliate of an investment firm.
