ArcelorMittal Poland Hosts Discovery Channel’s MegaWorld
02/28/2011 - ArcelorMittal Poland to be featured in the Discovery Channel’s MegaWorld series.
ArcelorMittal Poland is among the sites to be featured in the Discovery Channel’s MegaWorld series. The series is devoted to presenting stories related to state-of-the-art technologies and engineering challenges for the world to discover.
The original invitation was followed by extensive planning and process detailing prior to the visit. The filming crew juggled a particularly hectic schedule, which began with filming of the hot strip mill in Kraków, where they spent 2 full days. The main points of interest included specific stages of the production process, as well as the history, challenges and identity of Nowa Huta, a part of Kraków in which ArcelorMittal Poland’s plant is located).
Filming was interrupted when the filming crew had to leave for a day to visit a local salt mine in Wieliczka. However, the crew was so fascinated by the steelmaking process that they decided to give up their day off on Saturday and continue shooting - this time in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Filming started with panoramic shoots from the mouth of the blast furnace – more than 70 meters above the ground. Then the crew moved to the state-of-the-art Continuous Caster No. 3.
Throughout the visit, ArcelorMittal Poland employees did their best to give the visitors all necessary support, acting not only as experts and consultants, but also as actors and extras, thoroughly enjoying the experience.
During the three days of filming in Kraków and Dąbrowa, the MegaWorld crew recorded over 10 hours of HD material.
