ArcelorMittal Supports Communities through Volunteer Work
12/30/2009 - ArcelorMittal held its second annual International Volunteer Work Day, organized by the ArcelorMittal Foundation, in early December. The event is held in the same week as the United Nations' International Volunteer Day.
ArcelorMittal held its second annual International Volunteer Work Day, organized by the ArcelorMittal Foundation, in early December. After a successful event in 2008, with participation from more than 8000 employees from over 45 sites, the company decided to make it an annual event.
"The magnificent surprise was that even though the company was going through a tough time, the generosity of our colleagues shone through," said Felicidad Cristobal, Managing Director of the ArcelorMittal Foundation.
Corporate Volunteer Work Day at ArcelorMittal is a set of actions implemented by the Group's local units to encourage employees to invest time and expertise for the benefit of local communities.
"A company which is not well appreciated in the communities in which it operates has no future," Cristobal added. "And in economically challenging times, supporting our communities is even more important."
ArcelorMittal’s event is held in the same week as the United Nations' International Volunteer Day.
