ArcelorMittal Teams Up With Stockland for Green Steel

The companies said the partnership includes the use of ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® products to lower Stockland’s Scope 3 embodied carbon footprint. The XCarb steel will be used in Stockland’s new flagship multistory logistics development Momenta in the Sydney suburb of Banksmeadow, Australia.

“Using our range of XCarb low carbon-emissions steel in combination with best practices in design can easily enable developers to halve the carbon footprint of a building, compared with today’s benchmark,” said Olivier Vassar, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Steligence.

Other features will include water harvesting, solar energy, smart lighting and biophilic landscape design. This makes it on track for a 36% embodied carbon reduction and the company’s goal to achieve a 5-star rating under the Green Star Buildings v1 rating system, the company said.

“Adopting low carbon-emissions materials like XCarb steel will allow us to reduce embodied carbon and build a more sustainable future for our industrial real estate assets. Our partnership allows us to optimize design and source more sustainable options,” said Pete Bounsall, general manager of the strategic supply chain at Stockland.
