Baosteel Casting to Supply Staves for Seven Large-Scale Blast Furnaces
03/18/2009 - Baosteel Casting is awarded contracts to supply cooling staves for seven large-scale blast furnaces ranging in capacity from 3800 to 5500 m3.
Baosteel Casting Corp. was recently awarded contracts to supply cooling staves for seven large-scale blast furnaces.
Located in multiple countries, the seven blast furnaces for which Baosteel Casting will supply staves range in capacity from 3800 to 5500 m3. The company said it will utilize the strengths of its production organization and quality assurance to fulfill the requirements of the contracting customers.
The company is estimating it will be able to deliver all products by the end of the year.
Baosteel Casting earned this large order despite being in an unfavorable position due to a number of recent broken contracts. Baosteel Casting had signed six successive large-scale blast furnace cooling stave supply contracts with internationally known engineering & technology companies and steelmakers in the 4th quarter of last year. However, most of these contracts were either postponed or suspended when the projects were stopped due to the impact of the financial crisis, greatly upsetting Baosteel Casting’s production plans.
Despite the difficulties in executing these projects, Baosteel Casting continued to work toward further developing this market, beginning with a careful analysis of international supply and demand. Based on that analysis, the company intensified its communication with existing strategic customers as well as potential new customers.
The company’s development efforts have paid off: in January 2009, after getting the order for the cooling stave for Posco’s 4000-m3 blast furnace, the previously postponed Visakha project was re-activated. Soon after, the company concluded additional orders for cooling staves for China Steel Corp. of Taiwan, Taranto of Italy, etc.
