Baosteel and a joint-venture shipbuilding enterprise recently signed a high-strength marine heavy plate procurement contract; the products will be used for large domestic container ship manufacturing.
The designed load of the new container ship is 13,000 boxes; high-strength ship plates are used to build key parts. A team composed of Baosteel Manufacturing Department, Heavy Plate Department, Baosteel Research Institute, Heavy Plate Sales Department, and Baosteel International Baoshan assists the customer in the selection of Baosteel products. The team continuously optimized product performance during the trial, and by the end of last year—after six months of customer certification—Baosteel’s high-strength product achieved its breakthrough.
Baosteel notes that the shipbuilding industry business has been shrinking, bringing new challenges regarding how to maintain production and management stability. Therefore, the company has pursued high-end market development as its main direction in recent years.
The joint-venture shipbuilding enterprise is an important strategic customer of Baosteel ship plates. During years of cooperation, Baosteel has focused on not only providing quality ship plate products but also providing customers with services in logistics and new product development. Baosteel claims to currently be the only domestic ship plate supplier for this customer.
