Baosteel to Invest in Second Six-Color Metal Printing Line
08/18/2008 - Baosteel signs contract with ORG Canmaking Group and KBA Germany to install a new six-color metal printing line.
Baosteel subsidiary Shanghai Bao Yin Metal Decorating Co., Ltd. of Baosteel Metal Co., Ltd. (Baodeco) has signed a contract with ORG Canmaking Group and KBA Germany in Beijing for a new six-color metal printing line.
The new line will be Baosteel’s 2nd such production line, following the color-printing line successfully built in Shanghai in 2005. Through two-year's development, Baodeco has formed the annual capacity for 30 million pieces, and become the largest-scaled printing plant for metal packing products.
When Baosteel defined its new development strategy, the metal packing industry was identified as a main pillar industry, and becoming top 3 in China was defined as a strategy target. Baosteel Metal’s plan to joint-invest with ORG Canmaking Group to build the 2nd 6-color printing line, which will be designed and manufactured by KBA Germany in Huairou, Beijing, is part of its continued market investment.
According to Baosteel, there are three main advantages for this project, including the investment in equipment and technology that are state-of-the-art in the world. The new line will use the full-digital prepress system, which features high automation, excellent printing quality, and high efficiency, as well as zero exhaust emissions.
The second advantage is that the market space is tremendous. The company says there is good industry basis at the economic belt surrounding the Bohai Sea in Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan, as well as the three northeastern provinces, where large numbers of prominent Chinese food and beverage enterprises such as Red Bull, Zhongchen, Lolo, etc., help to facilitate the rapid development of metal packing industry.

Baosteel Metal selected the famous Chinese manufacturer for metal packing products, ORG Canmaking Group, as its cooperative partner. It is a diversified economic entity, focused on production of food, beverage, chemical, and other types of cans with 0.7 billion pieces of annual capacity. The company is also focused on food processing, import & export trading, touring and the restaurant industries. The mutual cooperation indicates the strategic league between Chinese two strong metal packing enterprises.
At the recent signing ceremony, Yang Weimin, Vice President of the China Packaging Federation, stated that the expansion of Baosteel Metal's packing industry to the north would not only advance the technology, capacity and scale of Chinese packing industry, but also increase the market share of Baosteel's tinned plates.
