Boltech Completes Coil Transfer Car
for North American Stainless

April 10, 2004 — Boltech, Inc. has successfully started up and commissioned a new 3-Coil Transfer Car for North American Stainless, Ghent, Ky. The transfer car will supply feedstock to a new plant expansion that will provide a major increase in finishing capacity for the plant. The expansion includes a new cold rolling mill, annealing & pickling line and increased storage facilities.

The 3-Coil Transfer Car is designed to be loaded and unloaded by EOT Crane and automatically transport coils between end locations. It is capable of carrying up to 3 coils, each weighing up to 35 tonnes (38.5 tons) with OD up to 2300mm (90.55 inches) and width up to 1350mm (53.15 inches). The car’s heavy-duty design includes the following features:

  • Impact-absorbing pads to minimize shock loading to bearings and frame.
  • Variable speed AC motor drive with controlled acceleration, deceleration and dynamic braking to reduce shock loading to car components.
  • Heavy duty, permanently lubricated AP bearings.
  • Non-marking coil support pads.
  • Collision Avoidance System for protection of equipment and personnel.
