Britain Temporarily Exempt From Doubled Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

The temporary exemption was granted since the U.K. had already agreed to the framework of the U.S.-U.K. Economic Prosperity Deal early last month. However, they still must pay 25% tariffs since the deal has not yet been put into place. If they do not finalize a deal with the U.S., the steel and aluminum tariffs will apply to Britain beginning 9 July, the Times said.

“This is a time-bound vote of confidence for U.K. steelmaking and our industry’s ability to supply to the U.S. market, but in many ways also creates further uncertainty, which is disruptive,” said industry trade group U.K. Steel in a statement.
