China Sets Its Sights on Scrap
01/07/2021 - China is opening up its borders to scrap steel imports, seemingly to support electric arc furnace steelmaking, reports industry publication Recycling Today.
According to the publication, the country has ended a 2% duty on scrap imports and has freed more than a dozen grades of ferrous scrap imports from volume restrictions.
In a related development, China’s largest steel producer, China Baowu Steel Group, has opened a highly automated scrap facility capable of processing 2.8 million metric tons annually, according to the Reuters news service.
