Chinese Mill Links Cold Rolling Shop to 5G Network
08/23/2022 - China Mobile Tianjin and Huawei have built a 5G network serving the cold rolling mills at New Tianjin Steel Group, marking the first time that the technology has been deployed in a steel production environment, the companies said in a press release.
The companies said the network links 18 ground cameras and four bridge cranes, with each equipped with four high-definition cameras and a remote PLC unit. Therefore, a high uplink throughput and a low latency are necessary to ensure reliable data transmission.
But complicating network demands is the fact that the bridge cranes travel a distance of 300 m, posing enormous challenges with regard to both the stability and consistency of latency-critical remote control services, the companies said.
“Huawei's 8T distributed Massive MIMO is uniquely positioned to overcome these challenges, as it provides 5G networks with access to lightning-fast transmissions and huge uplink throughput, while avoiding latency jitters during the long-distance movement of connected devices,” the companies said.
